Over the past decades, Morocco has implemented extensive structural and sectoral reforms aimed at strengthening the economy’s macroeconomic policy framework and its overall competitiveness, and better integrating Morocco into the global economy. As a result, the economy has undergone major changes that have improved macroeconomic performance and increased its resilience to shocks. This explains Morocco’s impressive macroeconomic stability in the face of a difficult external environment over the past few years, as well as more challenging climate conditions, in particular the more recurrent droughts. Morocco’s accessing the IMF Flexible Credit Line in April 2023 recognizes the economy’s very strong fundamentals and institutional policy frameworks, and a sustained track record of implementing very strong policies. To ensure a stronger, more resilient and more inclusive growth path Morocco has launched an ambitious set of reforms right after the pandemic, with the ambition to move to a new model of development, one with a more dynamic private sector, greater human capital accumulation, and a modern and targeted system of social protection.
